Ai-Da participated in the 50th anniversary of the festival, presenting live painting demonstrations in the festival's Shangri-La area. Recognised for its programme of contemporary art, activism and experimental culture, Shangri-La provided a setting for audiences to engage with Ai-Da's artistic practice and the relationship between artificial intelligence, creativity and society.

Ahead of the festival, Ai-Da created four new portraits of the 2022 headline performers—Billie Eilish, Sir Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar and Diana Ross. Created to mark the festival's return and its 50th anniversary celebrations, the portraits reflected Glastonbury's tradition of bringing together artists from across musical genres and generations. Throughout the festival, Ai-Da worked as an artist-in-residence in Shangri-La, creating new portraits live twice each day. Visitors were able to observe her artistic process in real time as she used cameras embedded in her eyes, computer vision and artificial intelligence algorithms to interpret her subjects and produce original artworks.

Reflecting on her participation, Ai-Da said, "I'm going to the 50th Glastonbury Festival. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and experiencing the unique atmosphere. Well, it's a kind of fun thing for me to do. I'll be at Shangri-La, and I'm doing some portraits—I hope that my art encourages discussion about art, music, and of course our futures! See you there!"
